Nova’s 5-Day Fresh-Braids Guide

Everything Nova and her braider do to keep braids fresh from Monday to Friday — with zero white flakes. Grown-ups: this is written for you and your kid to do together.

Day 0 · Install day
Start on clean, damp or dry hair. Part clean sections. Smooth a pea-sized amount of Sitting Pretty along each section and on the edges — a little goes a long way. Braid, loc or twist as usual. Let it dry clear for 10 minutes before heading out.
Every night · The 60-second routine
Satin bonnet or satin pillowcase. That one habit does more for day-5 freshness than anything else. If edges lift, a tiny dab of gel and a scarf for 10 minutes while brushing teeth.
Day 2 · Gym & recess
Sweat is fine — Sitting Pretty dries clear, so there’s no white residue to worry about. Pat (don’t rub) the hairline dry. Re-smooth edges only if needed.
Day 3 · The midweek check
Look at the parts in good light. Still clean? Leave them alone. Fuzzy? Smooth a small amount of gel with a soft brush along the part — never pile more on top.
Day 4–5 · Fresh for Friday
Light mist of water on the palms, smooth over the braids, then a whisper of gel on the edges. That’s it. Friday should look like Monday.
Take-down & wash day
Sitting Pretty is flaxseed-based and rinses out with regular shampoo — no scraping, no build-up. Detangle gently with conditioner, then rest the hair a day or two before the next style.

Nova’s three rules

  1. Less gel, more smoothing. Flakes come from too much product, not too little.
  2. Protect it at night. The bonnet is the secret.
  3. Your hair is yours. Walk in like the main character. ✨
